The recently introduced IR-63 M infrared fusion machine adds comprehensive hard- and software improvements to the established product family. Thanks to a machine-controlled process, it ensures contact-free and high-quality welds for materials such as PVDF, ECTFE, PP-H, PP-n, PE, or PVC-U in chemical applications. The updates have resulted in 20% shorter preparation times, 30% fewer installation steps, and 50% shorter cooling times.

The SYGEF ECTFE piping system from GF Piping Systems has been developed to handle extreme chemical applications under high pressure and high temperatures. The excellent material resistance offers long-term safety in applications with highly concentrated chemicals such as sulphuric acid and hydrogen peroxide as well as other bases and oxidizing agents. Users benefit from a fast installation, long system life, and lower operating costs. GF Piping Systems ensures the reliability of ECTFE systems through the use of advanced infrared welding technology.

For applications involving hazardous media, the Swiss company will focus on the double containment piping system CONTAIN-IT Plus. Its compact and lightweight plastic components are corrosion-free and can be adapted to the needs of a specific application. As CONTAIN-IT Plus was developed according to the DVS 2210-2 guideline, the connection of the inner pipe can be verified before closing the outer pipe which increases the overall safety of the system.

When it comes to safety, reliability, and efficiency, process automation plays a major role. GF Piping Systems will therefore also display process automation solutions at ACHEMA 2024. The company offers a wide range of valves and actuation options, from pneumatic to digitally connected smart devices. Still Opening Your Process? – Labom at ACHEMA 2024 https://fluidhandlingpro.com/international-fluid-handling-events/still-opening-your-process-labom-at-achema-2024/ Fri, 17 May 2024 13:25:37 +0000 https://fluidhandlingpro.com/?p=136597 To replace, calibrate and test measuring devices, they commonly require the plant’s process to be halted and opened in order to remove both the measuring device along with its process connection. This not only results in losing significant amounts of time and money, it also has the potential for mistakes and hazards. Labom, measuring device manufacturer from northern Germany, is presenting a large range of solutions to minimise downtimes and optimise the process at this year's ACHEMA.

The post Still Opening Your Process? – Labom at ACHEMA 2024 appeared first on Fluid Handling Pro.

]]>
One of these solutions is the patented REconnect quick coupling system for simple and safe disconnection and reconnection of diaphragm seal devices. Standing between the measuring device and the process connection it makes servicing as well as handling particularly easy when installing measuring devices with a capillary, where space is limited and the devices are difficult to reach.

The diaphragm seal testing device makes it possible to easily verify diaphragm seals in future without interrupting or opening the process. As the measuring device and diaphragm seal are separated from each other by a quick coupling system, the diaphragm seal itself can then easily be connected to the testing device instead.

The GV4730 MiniTherm temperature transmitter also helps to minimise downtimes: It is a transducer designed for installation inside a separate protective tube and can optionally be supplied with a ‘self-monitoring’ function – for redundant temperature measurement, drift detection and failure warning.

Other solutions include an in-process calibration method and clamp-on technology. With inprocess calibration, the respective measuring devices are designed so that they can be compared with a standard while attached to the process. The certified measuring standard is inserted into a special calibration opening in the device designed for this purpose. This makes it possible to monitor and check several measuring points at regular intervals, without any need to remove the temperature sensors. Clamp-on technology is used for temperature monitoring and process control, which is particularly useful for sterile processing. The temperature is measured from the pipe’s surface by means of simple clamp-on installation at any point in a pipework system – no interruption of the process or welding of a connection is required.

Labom will exhibit these and other measuring solutions that can be used to avoid opening the process at ACHEMA 2024 in Frankfurt am Main from 10 to 14 June in Hall 11.1 on Stand E45.

HRS to Showcase International Success at World Biogas Expo https://fluidhandlingpro.com/gas-processing/hrs-to-showcase-international-success-at-world-biogas-expo/ Tue, 07 May 2024 12:27:34 +0000 https://fluidhandlingpro.com/?p=136349 HRS Heat Exchangers will use this summer’s World Biogas Expo in Birmingham to explain the numerous uses and benefits of heat exchangers in anaerobic digestion, by showcasing a selection of its most successful projects from around the world.

The post HRS to Showcase International Success at World Biogas Expo appeared first on Fluid Handling Pro.

]]>
Over the course of its 40-year history, HRS Heat Exchangers has become a global leader in heat exchange technology for the AD and biogas sector, with systems for digester heating, pasteurisation, digestate concentration, biogas dehumidification, and sludge and exhaust gas heat recovery.

High energy prices in recent years have highlighted the importance of efficiency when designing and operating an AD plant and as a result HRS has seen strong demand for its products from biogas companies around the world, with growing interest in North America, southern and eastern Europe, and Australasia.

HRS equipment is installed at more than 200 biogas plants worldwide, helping operators to improve their efficiency and overall operation. In recent years, HRS has worked on a number of international biogas projects, including:

 • Provision of a six-module HRS DTI Series heat exchanger to maintain sludge temperature as part of an upgrade to Prince of Wales Bay Sewage Treatment Plant in Tasmania.
 • Supplying HRS K Series stainless-steel shell and tube heat exchangers to Australia’s largest landfill biogas company to dehumidify biogas.
 • Supplying an HRS Digestate Pasteurisation System (DPS) to help upgrade a 10.8 MW AD plant at Vievis in Lithuania.
 • Provision of a Digestate Pasteurisation System (DPS) to New Zealand’s first dedicated food waste AD treatment plant at Reporoa.
 • Supplying a Biogas Dehumidification System (BDS) as part of an upgrade to Melbourne Water’s Eastern Treatment Plant, the largest activated sludge plant in the Southern Hemisphere.
 • A $3.8 million order for a mixture of 6m and 10m heat exchanger modules for delivery to North America in late 2024.
 • Providing an HRS Digestate Pasteurisation System (DPS) with heat regeneration (to recapture heat which would otherwise have been lost and improve plant energy efficiency) to an existing AD plant in the UK
HRS K Series heat exchangers have been supplied to dehumidify biogas for Australia’s largest landfill biogas company

As well as heat exchangers for digester heating and heat recovery, HRS offers a number of specific biogas systems including:

Biogas Dehumidification System (BDS)

The HRS BDS removes water from biogas to protect boilers and CHP engines from corrosion and cavitation. It includes heat recovery as standard, increasing overall AD plant energy efficiency.

HRS Biogas Dehumidification System (BDS) at Melbourne Water’s Eastern Treatment Plant in Australia

Digestate Pasteurisation System (DPS)

The HRS DPS is capable of pasteurising digestate, feedstocks, and similar materials pre-or post-digestion, allowing operators to maximise the efficiency of their overall process while meeting regulatory and customer requirements. Its continuous process is simpler than single tank options and provides up to 70% heat regeneration, making it extremely energy efficient.

An HRS Digestate Pasteurisation System (DPS) installed at a Lithuanian AD plant

Digestate Concentration System (BCS)

The HRS DCS reduces the volume of digestate while increasing its value, often using surplus heat from the CHP engine or biogas boiler. Not only does the DCS remove up to 80% of the water content, but it also increases the nutrient content, reduces odours, and usually requires no additional energy or water.

Heat exchangers are a more efficient and convenient method for heating digester tanks

Experts from the UK firm will discuss essential products and solutions for the global water industry when they exhibit at IFAT Munich in May.

On their stand will be a specially-shipped containerised skid filtration system, an example of a mobile ‘plug and play’ kit that UK water companies increasingly rent to maintain supply in times of flood, drought and other emergencies.

The skid, which contains three housing vessels and 40 filter cartridges, is set to be a major talking point for visitors to Amazon Filters’ 4.5m by 4.5m exhibition booth.

They will include representatives from European and worldwide companies and organisations working in municipal water, sewage, waste and raw materials management.

Based on flow rates and projections, cartridge filtration from Amazon Filters has seen more than 350 billion litres of water filtered by UK water companies in the past year, ensuring a safe, clean and consistent supply to tens of millions of homes and businesses.

At the same time, Amazon Filters has just released sustainable polypropylene versions of its flagship SupaSpun II, SupaGard, Contour and VisClear II product ranges.

These are widely used in critical liquid filtration processes in municipal water and other vital industries such as oil and gas, food and beverage, chemicals and coatings, and pharmaceuticals.

Absolute-rated SupaSpun II has long been on the approved list for use in the UK public water supply under the Drinking Water Inspectorate’s Regulation 31.

And in March, after extensive testing, it gained KTW DVGW certification for safety in the gas and water sectors under German regulations by the standards body DVGW.

The various product improvements and certifications comply fully with the recasting of the EU Water Directive (DWD) 98/83/EC and its new rules on cartridge filtration. The directive revised down the previous indicator level of turbidity at the tap from <1NTU to <0.3NTU, something Amazon Filters had already achieved.

As well as turbidity control, Amazon Filters supports the water industry through chlorine reduction and the removal of iron, manganese, cryptosporidium and other contaminants and chemicals.

Amazon Filters’ IFAT exhibitors are Director Jeff Kirby, Marketing Manager David Ridealgh, Senior Sales Engineer Marco Kluge and Manager for Germany Ulrich Bräutigam.

Our key messages for IFAT this year are around sustainability, compliance and how good quality filtration can save on capital expenditure and be more friendly to the environment,” said Ulrich. “We will explain how our solutions are a viable, cost-effective and sustainable alternative to sandbed filtration, and can be packaged in containerised or skid formats with the option of remote monitoring.

“We will highlight our 39 years of experience in innovating products and solutions for different sectors and how we aim to build on our role as a trusted supplier to the municipal water industry in the UK.

“IFAT gives us a prime opportunity to explain how can export our strengths to more customers both in the EU and around the world.”

Amazon Filters will be at Booth 543 in Hall A1 at IFAT Munich, taking place from 13 to 17 May 2024.
